Elementary Teachers to Hold “Day of Protest” Friday

All Public Elementary Schools Closed Friday, January 11, 2013

ETFO2LogoThe Avon Maitland District School Board has been informed that on Friday, January 11, 2013 the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) will be staging a province wide “Day of Protest” in response to the Government of Ontario`s actions on January 3, 2013.

As a result all Avon Maitland Elementary Schools including the grade 7-8 programs at Avon Maitland Secondary Schools will be closed to students on Friday, January 11, 2013. Children who ride a school bus to an Avon Maitland elementary school will NOT be picked up on that day. We anticipate that all of our elementary schools will reopen on Monday, January 14, 2013 for regular classes.

The Board was informed by the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario of this “Day of Protest” at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013. We are making every effort to provide you with sufficient notice to make whatever alternate day care arrangements you will need to make for your child(ren). Please do not drop your child off at your school on Friday as there will not be adequate supervision available.

All Avon Maitland secondary schools will be open for regular classes for students in grades 9 – 12 on Friday.

Our priority remains the safety of our students and we will continue to monitor the situation and its impact on Avon Maitland elementary students. We are committed to keeping you informed and we will continue to send information home as necessary. We will also be posting updates on the Board`s website at yourschools.ca/labour-update, if the situation changes.

If you wish further information regarding ETFO’s job action, please check the provincial ETFO website at etfo.ca.
