Friday School Closing Decision Not Final

Thursday, January 10, 2013

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Pending the outcome of a legal decision this evening (Thursday, January 10, 2013) it is possible that all public elementary schools in the Avon Maitland District School Board may be open for regular classes tomorrow (Friday, January 11, 2013). We are writing to you again today so that you can be prepared for this change in plans, in case it is decided that schools can open as normal.

We will be making announcements this evening or early tomorrow so we ask that you please check the board website at yourschools.ca to find out if the schools will be open or closed. You can also tune in to your local radio, television station or internet news site where announcements will be made this evening and tomorrow morning.

We are doing our best to keep you informed but it is out of our hands and we understand your frustration with this situation. At the time of writing this letter, public elementary schools in Huron and Perth remain scheduled to be closed to students tomorrow, but that may change when the legal decision is announced later today.

Once again I want to assure you that any decision made for tomorrow will be announced as soon as possible based on ensuring the safety and security of our students.

Sincerely,

Ted Doherty
Director of Education
