Strategic Plan Reflection

Trustee Jenny Versteeg provided the Strategic Plan reflection for this month speaking on how she's been able to focus on the 4 Cs and a P.

Staff Presentation - Director's Annual Report

Strat planDirector of Education Ted Doherty and the Board's Senior Staff presented the Director's Annual Report by reviewing the Board's Strategic Plan website, The website outlines the four year Strategic Plan which began in September 2012. Using the "Indicators of Success" the Board tracked its progress in creating successful outcomes from the strategies established in the plan. The site provides a review of each year, and this year's strategies will be monitored as well through the "Indicators of Success. The Goals of the plan are to Create Positive, Inclusive Learning Environments and to Maximize Student Outcomes. This is to be achieved by helping our students gain competency in the following areas: collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving, then our students will develop and value the required skills to participate in a global economy.

Draft Revised Estimates 2013/2014

Revised Estimates are required to be file annually part way through the fiscal year. This year the deadline to file was December 13, 2013. The Revised Estimates reporting cycle allows boards an opportunity to update their initial estimates developed in the spring of last year. The Board approved the recommendation of the Finance Committee to accept the Revised Estimates as presented.

Appointment of Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) Members

The Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) is a statuary committee to the Board for examining, reviewing and making recommendations, as appropriate, relative to all matters pertaining to the provision of special education programs and services.

In the 2013/2014 school year the SEAC Committee has representatives from local associations. As well, there are several people who are acting as members at large. The following is a list of representatives on the SEAC of the Avon Maitland District School Board:

Trustee Expenses and Attendance at Board Meetings for the 2012/2013 Fiscal Year

Board Policy requires that there be an annual report on Trustee expenses and attendance. There are specific trustee roles that attract more expenses, particularly kilometrage, which will explain variances in the individual travel amounts. These include:

  • Chair
  • Vice-Chair
  • OPSBA Director and OPSBA Alternate
  • Trustees assignments (eg. Negotiations, Accommodation Review)

OPSBA Update-Endorsement of Charter of Commitment on First Nation, Metis and Inuit Education

At the request of the Ontario Public School Boards' Association, the Board reviewed and endorsed the Draft Charter of Commitment on First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education. This endorsement will be forwarded to the OPSBA for inclusion in their submission.
