Approval of Tender for Renovations to Listowel District Secondary School

In April 2009, Administration received a letter from the Ministry regarding confirmation of an allocation for Build Capacity at Listowel District Secondary School (LDSS). This allocation is based on enrolment pressures and flowed under the normal grant structure. The total amount of the Enrolment Pressure funding for LDSS is $4,117,335. At the outset, the facilities team, in consultation with LDSS staff, developed an overall capital plan ‘blueprint’ for renovation of the school to be phased in over a multi-year period, as funding would permit. This is Phase 3 of the project and includes relocation of the original staff room to provide space for a new kitchen and servery, thereby allowing for expansion of the cafeteria. This project will also include the renovation of two smaller seminar rooms in the library to create a new classroom and minor renovations to an existing physics lab.

The Board approved the tender from Elgin Contracting for renovations at Listowel District Secondary School in the tender amount of $1,379,730.00, subject to Ministry approval.

Approval of Tender for Mechanical Upgrades to GDCI

This project includes replacement of the existing steam boilers and air handling units with high efficiency condensing type hot water boilers, new air handling units with indoor air quality sensors and demand control ventilation capability, and a relief fan complete with variable frequency drive. As well there will be removal of asbestos insulation within the affected area. Also included in this project is upgrading the main electrical service entrance and maintenance of the site transformer.

The Board approved the tender from Lannin Electric Limited for mechanical work at Goderich District Collegiate Institute in the tender amount of $889,579.39.

Trustee Determination and Distribution

Ontario Regulation 412/00 re Elections to and Representation on District School Board governs the determination of the number of trustees and the geographic distribution of trustees. The rules have not changed since the last election in 2010. The Regulation requires schools boards to pass a resolution by March 31, 2014 either designating one or more municipalities as low population municipalities or state that the board has decided not to designate any municipality as a low population municipality. The Board approved making no change to the number of trustees(9) and did not designate any area as a low population municipality.
