The impact on teaching and learning in Phase 1

Students using iPadsSystem Principal of Program Vince Trocchi provided Trustees with an assessment to date of Phase 1 of the Next Generation Learning - School 3.0 project. The students in the Mitchell and Central Huron areas, who were part of the 1 to 1 iPad launch earlier this year, were surveyed at the beginning and once again this past week. Mr. Trocchi reported that in just four months the level of engagement and achievement by the students in the project has increased dramatically. For further details view the slide presentation below.

Teacher Collaborative Inquiry - St. Marys DCVI

Program Coordinator Laurie Long, Secondary Teacher Scott Spillane and Elementary Teacher Candy McEwan from St. Marys DCVI presented a look at Teacher Collaborative Inquiry and its impact on student learning. This involved changes in practice that included eliminating actual marks. Using this model students became more focused on improvement rather than achievement.

Board Looking for Host Families as International Student Numbers Skyrocket

Projections indicate that Avon Maitland will be welcoming over 120 international students into its schools starting in September and throughout the 2014-2015 school year. That represents an increase of over 50%. While that is great news, the rapid growth also comes with a challenge, finding host families in Huron and Perth to provide a home away from home for our international guests.
