Back for it’s second year is the “Learning Together Student Symposium”, which was recently held in the Stratford Rotary Complex.
This symposium brings together groups of secondary school students who want to promote positive inclusive learning environments within their schools and allows them the opportunity to celebrate their work and discuss their ideas.
Building upon the success of last year’s event, the symposium featured a stronger emphasis on ‘student voice’. The event was led by two student Masters of Ceremonies and participants had opportunity to share with the crowd what inspired them the year before.
The day began with encouragement from Director of Education Ted Doherty followed by dynamic keynote speaker Nick Foley, who spoke about his organization “Move for Inclusion”
Students were able to share their thoughts on inclusion via green screen video booth, poetry, music, as well as videos.
Together with the strong, passionate students of Avon Maitland who believe everyone (regardless of ability) should learn together, the ‘Learning for All’ AMDSB team plans to expand this annual event and hopes to create an Elementary version as well.
