AMDSB and University of Waterloo Stratford Campus Launch New Provincial SWAU>
The Avon Maitland District School Board in partnership with the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus are pleased to announce the official launch of a “School Within a University” (SWAU).
The School Within a University (SWAU) program will be hosted at the new University of Waterloo Stratford Campus. This new program further celebrates the tremendous achievements of Stratford Central Secondary School’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Specialist High Skills Major program and University of Waterloo.
The ICT Program is extremely popular at Stratford Central and has gained province-wide recognition along with the proven success of its graduates. An Avon Maitland and Stratford Central partnership with the University of Waterloo Stratford Campus was a natural progression. The University of Waterloo Stratford Campus and the Avon Maitland District School Board have created a variety of educational partnerships in areas such as facility use, training and equipment.
The School Within a University program launched Friday, February 1, 2013. Eligible students are selected by school staff and must meet criteria set by the School Board and the University to demonstrate that they are academically capable.
Here are the video highlights of this week’s announcement.
The digital Central SHSM program was approved by the Ministry of Education in May of 2009 based on evidence of an established program, strong community and post-secondary education partnerships, the delivery of sector-recognized certifications and a cooperative education component.
digital Central promotes the creation and production of communications systems, computer engineering, software and digital media. ICT courses are the most requested within the school. Students pursuing a career in this sector are well prepared for any pathway they may choose.
