Friday, October 2, 2014 was an historic day for education in Perth County with the ground breaking ceremony for the new North Perth Elementary School.
The story of the new North Perth Elementary school began in June 2010 when the Board approved the Accommodation review plan to close Listowel Central Public School and Wallace Public School and send those students to a new school in the municipality subject to approval by the Ministry of Education.
It was a year later when funding approvals came through and the project moved forward. Working with the Municipality of North Perth a site was identified near Louise Ave and Binning Street, rezoned and a plan put in place to link with a possible future recreational centre in North Perth. Then on to the actual design and the awarding of the tender. The Board approved the tender from Tambro Construction to build the new North Perth Elementary School in Listowel.
The school is expected to be open to students in September 2016.
