Lead Testing & Flushing
In June 2007 the Ministry of the Environment required that all school boards sample school water for lead ever year between June and August. The regulation also requires that all schools flush their water system on a daily basis and maintain records. Avon Maitland schools have been flushing their systems on a daily basis since at least 2003.
The Board hired R.J. Burnside Engineering to conduct the water tests and help implement the new and revised flushing program. The new flushing protocols are being reviewed by school custodians to ensure best practices are followed on a daily basis.
Recently all Ontario schools became part of a new, rigorous drinking water testing program. It enforces a very high international standard and is the toughest testing program in Canada.
