The Avon Maitland District School Board (AMDSB) is seeking a skilled, dynamic educational leader for the position of Superintendent of Education, beginning August 1, 2015. The successful candidate will become a member of a strategic, high performing senior team focused on improving student achievement and well-being. Candidates will have demonstrated outstanding leadership at the system level and will have led system change. Candidates should be qualified as a Supervisory Officer or be working toward qualifications.

The successful candidate should have the ability to:
  • lead and supervise a region of elementary and/or secondary schools

Finance Manager - Alternative Programs

Effective April 1, 2015, a permanent non-union position exists for a Finance Manager – Alternative Programs at the Education Centre in Seaforth, reporting to the Financial Services Administrator.

Job Responsibilities

    Direct:

  • Support to Adult Education program leaders and Centre for Employment and Learning (CEL) site(s) staff in all aspects of financial management and reporting, includes:
    • Provide leadership, technical guidance and interpretation regarding accounting matters
    • Budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, prepare variance analysis and expenditure forecasting
    • Complete all financial reporting requirements including the preparation of annual financial statements and other internal and external reports, in compliance with PSAB and applicable Ministry Guidelines
    • Liaise with external governing body, internal and external auditors where applicable
    • Create and implement financial controls guidelines to be followed at CEL sites. Support CEL staff in the implementation of finance related Administrative Procedures and guidelines, including training
    • Internal Reviews: create and implement annual plan for CEL site reviews including scheduling of regular reviews, conducting on site reviews including preparation of standard review working papers, completion of audit report and communication of results to Program and Board Administration. Also includes providing support to site staff implementing recommendations
    • Provide support to the Administrator of Lifelong Learning Programs in aspects relating to the financial management of the programs including the assistance with the preparation of grant proposals
  • Financial Reporting activities for special grants of the board, includes:
    • Maintain board master record of special grants, including database maintenance, contracts, reports, reporting requirements etc.
    • Regular review of general ledger, including formal account reconciliation process and preparation of journal entries
    • Provide direction, support and training to board staff on accounting standards and financial reporting requirements, as related to special grants
    • Liaise with external governing body and/or auditors where applicable
  • Support to other programs: provide support to various departments in terms of financial management, includes assistance with budget preparation, monitoring expenditures, prepare variance analysis and expenditure forecasting, complete all financial reporting requirements including the preparation of annual financial statements and other internal and external reports. Liaise with external governing body and/or auditors where applicable.

    Indirect:

  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of financial information at the Board’s Audit and Finance Committees, as relative to the direct duties listed above
  • Participation in the needs analysis in terms of new Ministry and Board initiatives/requirements, assistance in the selection and/or design of internal tracking systems and the coordination of activities related to system implementation as required
  • Work in a cooperative team fashion to support other department managers re: holidays, illness and overflow/peak periods
Qualifications & Experience
  • Professional Accounting Designation program i.e. CPA
  • University Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years related work experience in Finance or Accounting in the public or private sector
  • School board experience preferred

Supply Designated Early Childhood Educator (ECE)

Supply Designated ECE candidate: must have a minimum two-year community college Early Childhood Education diploma, proof of current registration with the Ontario College of early Childhood Educators, and recent experience as an ECE working in an Early Learning Centre or Day Care.

Supply Educational Assistant (EA)

Supply EA candidate: will provide physical, behavioural and/or academic support to students in integrated or self-contained settings. Excellent oral and written communication skills; and excellent interpersonal and professional skills. College certificate or diploma in Educational Assistant, Child Youth Worker, Developmental Services Worker or related field, or equivalent experience required.

Supply Secretary

Supply Secretary candidate: must be competent in keyboarding and computer literacy; work independently; possess organization and multi-tasking skills; excellent oral and written communication skills. One year college level certificate or diploma in office administration on plus related work experience required.

Supply Technical Resource Assistant (TRA)

Supply Technical Resource Assistant candidate: will maintain the library; troubleshooting common computer hardware/software problems; network support; administrative and clerical tasks; supporting students with the use of technology. One year college level certificate or diploma in computer training plus related work experience required.

Supply Custodian

Supply Custodian candidate: will involve the ability to lift, climb stairs and ladders; knowledge of proper usage of chemicals and cleaning supplies; experience in handling machinery ie. buffing machine; and mechanical aptitude in the trades. Minimum Grade 12 Diploma required.

These supply/casual call-in positions may occur at elementary or secondary schools located in Huron and Perth counties.
