Grade 3/4 and grade 4 classes of Elma Township Public School ranked number 1 in physical fitness in all of Canada by the 60 Minutes Kids Club.
Sharon VanVeen and her students have been participating in the challenge and tracking their collective progress since the start of the school year. Points were awarded for things like stretching, physical activity, and consuming your daily requirements of fruits and vegetables.
The students originally placed first in all of Ontario, and once all the results were calculated across the country they were declared the top school in all of Canada. The announcement was made by a representative from the 60 Minute Kids Club on the last day of school at an assembly. It was a fantastic way to end the school year.
With the award also came a cash prize of $750, which will be used next year to help bring specialists to the school once a month to engage students in unique forms of physical fitness like zumba, yoga, martial arts, and more.
Students and teachers look forward to a physically active 2016/2017 school year and plan to enter the 60 Minute Kids Club challenge once again.
