The Avon Maitland District School Board is home to 31 elementary and 9 secondary schools. Each day, many of our students rely on public transportation to get to and from school. Winter is here, and that means there may be days where school buses cannot safely get our students to school in the mornings, it is our role to make sure that parents are aware of the decisions being made in an accurate and timely manner.
When will I be notified?
In the event of a cancellation or delay due to inclement weather we try our best to start posting notifications on social media by 6:00 am. If no information is posted by 6:30am then it is likely that buses are running and schools are open. Please be aware that due to shifting changes in weather there is a chance there may be delays in morning notifications.
How will I be notified?
Accurate and up to date information is first posted on the Huron Perth Student Transportation Services Website. From there, each school that is affected is responsible for sharing that information to their followers on social media. We recommend following your children’s school(s) on Twitter and Facebook, as well as the official AMDSB Facebook and Twitter accounts.
What happens next?
Buses may be cancelled due to inclement weather or delayed by 2 hours due to heavy fog.
There are many different types of cancellations such as:
- All transportation closed, school closed to students.
- All transportation cancelled, school open to students who can safely attend.
- All rural and specialized transportation cancelled, urban/in-town routes running on time, school open to students who can safely attend.
It can be hazardous around Huron and Perth counties during the winter months so we advise everyone to take extra precaution while on the roads and give yourself extra time if needed to get to your destination safely.
