The Avon Maitland District School Board has reached a tentative local agreement with the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation representing its Secondary Occasional Teachers.
The agreements are expected to be ratified by January 29, 2016.
“We respect the central and local-level bargaining process and are pleased that a tentative agreement has been reached with our highly valued Occasional Teachers.” said Ted Doherty, Director of Education for the Avon Maitland District School Board.
Jeff Denys, president of District 8 OSSTF – Teacher Bargaining Unit, said he is “pleased to have reached a tentative agreement that addresses the needs of the members, while working to enhance the learning opportunities of our students.”
Central bargaining takes place between the Ontario Public School Boards Association and the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation, and is agreed to by the province.
Local bargaining takes place between the school board and various units.
The local public board employs almost 1600 teachers and 900 support staff which serve a student population of about 15,500 students attending the board’s schools.
