Spearheaded by the Avon Maitland District School Board, the Huron Perth Catholic District School Board and the Foundation for Education, regional partners brought distinct career exploration events to students at the Stratford Rotary Complex on Wednesday, November 13th, 2019.
During the day from 10 am – 2 pm, the Interactive Career Day provided opportunity for students in Grades 7 to 10 to explore a wide range of career opportunities. The goal of this event is to have community partners who represent all five pathways – apprenticeship, college, community, university and workplace – connect and network with these students through a series of interactive displays and activities.
Afterwards from 4 pm – 7 pm, the focus was specifically on opportunities for women in the skilled trades. The Real Deal on Skilled Trades is an annual event where parents/guardians and their daughters get a better understanding of a potential career in the trades. Attendees interacted with mentors and exhibitors, and heard success stories from women in the trades.
