Local community agencies are hosting an information night for youth and parents dealing with topics such as dating violence, harassment and consent.
The “You Matter” information night will feature discussion and available resources about preventing dating violence and sexual violence/harassment, as well as encouraging healthy relationships, consent and bystander intervention.
Members of the Youth Justice Committee and Domestic Assault Review Team (DART) are seeing an increase in charges, incidents and reporting of sexual assault amongst Huron County youth.
The agencies want to help Huron County parents and youth learn more about sexual assault/violence, building healthy relationships, and what supports are available in the county.
The information night will take place Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Central Huron Secondary School in Clinton. In addition to guest speaker TK from the Sexual Assault Support Centre, local community agencies will be available.
The Youth Justice Committee of Huron County oversees the development and implementation of alternatives to the court-based system to handle low risk offences committed by young persons. In recent years, the Committee’s scope has been expanded to promote and address youth issues that are relevant to Huron County.
The Huron Domestic Assault Review Team (Huron DART) is a cross-sector committee which works together to improve community response to victims of domestic and sexual violence.
