Director Walsh, on behalf of Superintendent Jodie Baker, announced that 150 international students are expected to start second semester at AMDSB secondary schools, the highest number of international students we have ever had for second semester!
International education provides opportunities for our students to participate in exchange programs with, and travel to other countries. Through the years, our students have traveled to Taiwan, Italy, St. Maarten and Berlin. To date, AMDSB has welcomed over 1,000 international students! Olympic Insiders Speak to System Leaders
Trustee Herb Klassen highlighted the District Leaders meeting held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at the Mitchell Golf and Country Club. Olympic gold medalist Mark Tewksbury and former Olympic coach Debbie Muir provided two presentations to the system leaders of AMDSB on ‘Traits of Champions’. The first presentation titled ‘Building Innovative and Effective Teams’ focused on expanding your perspective, acting effectively and creating synergy. The second presentation ‘Going Beyond: Raising the Bar on Performance’ discussed utilizing the power of thought, creating synergy, generating enthusiasm and continuing to evolve.
Their high performance insights were born from real-life Olympic experience. Tewksbury and Muir delivered engaging and impactful programs showing staff how they can perform at their best and influence the environment around them in a positive way.

Superintendent Jodie Baker has been spearheading a month-long campaign to promote mental health awareness and resources for students. As part of the AMDSB Mental Health, Addictions and Well-Being Strategy, we entered into the new year with a highlight on ‘thinking healthy’. We have been posting tips and tools across our social media channels ahead of tomorrow’s Bell Let’s Talk Day.

The 2018-2019 AMDSB Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) has been formed.

Board Approves the 2018-2019 Revised Estimates Budget
Associate Superintendent Cheri Carter is pleased to report that the Board approved the 2018-2019 Revised Estimates Budget as recommended by the Finance Committee. The 2018/2019 updated budget figures reported outline the expected revenues, allocations and expenses known for the upcoming fiscal year. In addition, the capital budget presented includes projected allocations and spending on items of a capital nature such as computer hardware, furniture, equipment, vehicles and Facility construction capital.
The draft balanced budget reflects total projected operating expenses of $213,910,992 and total projected capital spending of $27,507,411.

Senior Staff, led by Director Walsh presented the 2017 / 2018 Director’s Annual Report to the Board of Trustees. The report highlights the accomplishments and progress of the Avon Maitland District School Board over the last school year, focusing on our vision of creating positive, inclusive learning environments and maximizing outcomes for students.
Superintendent Paul Langis presented to the Board of Trustees on the Human Resource Services, Human Capital Management Plan: Continuous Learning for All. This plan supports various strategies committed to in the Director’s Work Plan. It refers to the development of strategies to recruit the best talent, develop career plans for employees, mentor/ coach employees, motivate employees to deliver their best at all times and the development of performance management practices.
