Special Board meeting to discuss OPSBA position on Health and Physical Education Curriculum
The Avon Maitland District School Board held a Special Board meeting on Friday, August 17, 2018 to address support of the Ontario Public School Board Association’s (OPSBA) letter dated August 10th.
At this meeting the following motion was passed:
Whereas it is unreasonable and unfair to expect individual teachers to determine how to modify the Health and Physical Education 2015 (revised) curriculum to include topics necessary to students’ well-being and not included in the Government’s currently proposed curriculum potentially leaving teachers open to sanction and discipline, be it resolved that the Avon Maitland District School Board support OPSBA’s position, as outlined in their letter dated August 10, 2018 to the Minister of Education, to teach the Health and Physical Education 2015 (revised) curriculum until such time as the Ministry of Education puts forth a fully vetted and evidence-based Health and Physical Education curriculum.
Furthermore, be it resolved that the Board Chair forward this motion on to OPSBA, School Board Chairs, and copy the Minister of Education and OSSTF and ETFO Locals.
