Avon Maitland Schools Canada, the international program for Avon Maitland District School Board, provides students from around the world with the opportunity to come for an education and stay for the experience!
As of today, Avon Maitland Schools Canada has welcomed over 1,000 international students since the launch of the program in the 2010-11 school year. We look forward to welcoming an additional 142 students to attend the second semester for the 2018-19 school year, the highest number of international students we have ever had for second semester.
Most students attend secondary school, and we continue to experience growth in the elementary level.
Students come to our district from many different countries, including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tajikistan, Thailand, USA, and Vietnam.
International education provides opportunities for our students to participate in exchange programs with, and travel to other countries. Through the years, our students have traveled to Taiwan, Italy, St. Maarten and Berlin.
Our international student summer program – Capture Canada 2018 — greeted 20 students from China. All students received English as a Second Language oral and written instruction, and participated in various planned excursions/activities within our district, and throughout Toronto and Waterloo area. We are very excited to be welcoming 40 students from China for the 2019 Capture Canada Camp and we are hoping to run a second summer camp that will include students from any nationality who apply.
Avon Maitland Schools Canada offers a homestay program for students who attend the academic school year. This is an enriching cultural experience for both the host family and student.
