As you are aware, in order for Stratford Central to remain operational we have to address the structural issues that have been identified. The Ministry funding to address these issues requires we move approximately 300 student spaces. Therefore, after the renovation is complete, Stratford Central will not be able to accommodate the same number of students.
We continue to work through a very complex and consultative process for the vision of our Stratford schools. Our goal, within our fiscal limits, is to improve the facilities and enrich the programming for all students, while keeping student and staff safety and well-being at the forefront.
We had hoped to be at a place where we could share our decision prior to the winter break. We are still working through our six options. We are using the criteria developed, as well as the consultation from the public which told us that: quality of program and student well-being were top priorities, and that shifting students back and forth between sites during the school day was not an option wanted. Through our analyses a new option has also arisen that we are exploring.
We are currently working with our Ministry partners to explore each and every option available and to determine feasibility within current provincial regulations and guidelines. We are doing our due diligence to make the best possible decision for our students. Thank you for your patience as we work through this extremely complicated process.
The final vision decision for our Stratford schools does not impact our construction timeline; we are moving forward and on track!
We are now working through the details of the transition year plans, and forming a Transition Committee to support our students and staff during the 2018/2019 transition year.
We continue to value the input provided from our students and parents and will have representatives as part of our planning teams.
