There is always excitement when students head back to school in September. This year we have an even more exciting year as two schools join together as one. We extend a special welcome to our Stratford Central students and Stratford Northwestern students as we come together as Stratford Secondary and Elementary Schools (SSES). We encourage all of our students to explore their interests and get involved during this unique school year! There are many new opportunities for students to experience this year.
During the 2019-2020 school year, the staff at SSES will continue to strive for excellence in our curricular goals as well as concentrating on AMDSB’s strategic direction – Engage, Inspire, Innovate…Always Learning. All teachers will be working collaboratively to ensure that during learning, students are involved in inclusive classroom practices. Also, we will continue to support student learning with up-to-date technology to help engage students in 21st century skills which include: creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration and problem solving.

We will be having a staggered start to the 2019-2020 school year. Grade 7 and 8 students will start school on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 , along with the Grade 9s. Grade 7 and 8 students should go to the large gym when they arrive. Students should arrive no later than 8:45 am.
All students in grades 10 – 12 will start on Wednesday, September 4, 2019.
Drop Off / Parking
Students who are being dropped off by buses will use the front door entrance. Students being dropped off by family members will be dropped off at the corner of Forman and Britannia, at the Cornerstone Church parking lot. From there, students must cross the street with the crossing guard.
The lane by the water tower may not be used for drop-off purposes. For safety reasons, only students parking their vehicles in the north lot may use this lane.
Throughout the school year several visitor parking spots will be designated in the Oakdale Avenue parking lot closest to the school.
Cell Phones and Backpacks
Cell phones should be kept in the locker during class time. Cell phones may be used in class for educational purposes only and at the discretion of the classroom teacher.
Backpacks will be left in student lockers and are not to be in the classroom. The hallways and classrooms will be congested with the larger student population. Thank you for your cooperation.
Locks and Lockers
All students will be assigned a locker. Students are expected to use their assigned locker and have a lock on it. Students can bring their own combination lock or they can purchase one in the school office for $6.00. Student lock combinations will be kept on file in the office. A gentle reminder that lockers are the property of the school.
Student Activity Cards
Students are encouraged to purchase a student card through School Cash Online for $15. This purchase will be available after August 30. The student activity card is needed to participate in extracurricular activities.
