Since September, the staff from Stratford Secondary and Elementary Schools (SSES), City of Stratford, Huron-Perth Student Transportation Services and the Avon Maitland District School Board have been monitoring busing, parking and traffic around SSES. We would like to thank those parents and students who have been observing signage and following procedures that have been implemented. Detailed parking maps can be found in the newsletter that was sent to families in August (under “Transportation”).
New Bus Assignments For Some Grade 7 and 8 Students
In response to concerns from parents and bus operators about the overcrowding of City of Stratford “special school” buses for grade 7 and 8 SSES students, we are moving some students from the City buses to Huron Perth Transportation Services “yellow” buses. The students who are making this switch include those who live in areas where we have existing “yellow” bus routes and space for additional students. This change will begin on Monday November 4 and individual families that are affected are being contacted individually.
Stratford Central Shuttle
A reminder that there is a one-year only provision for secondary students who would have attended Stratford Central (SC) to receive transportation to SSES by school bus shuttle from the Central flats in the mornings, returning after school. There is no need to register for this service and there are two buses running in each direction, each day, however, if space becomes an issue, priority will be given to Grade 9 students. The shuttle leaves the SC flats at 8:35am and leaves the front circle at SSES at 3:05pm (arriving at SC at approximately 3:15pm).
Safe Cycling Routes
Before winter weather arrives, we continue to encourage students to walk or bike to school. The Perth District Health Unit has provided safe cycling routes for students. See the links below.

Traffic and Safety
Traffic around SSES has been extensively discussed with the Huron-Perth Catholic Board, City staff, police and fire officials. A multi-faceted approach to traffic calming and management, to ensure the safety of pedestrians and vehicles around the school site, has been implemented. Student safety is our number one priority! As a reminder, we have implemented:
- No parking/stopping on both sides of Forman Ave. from Short St. to Oakdale Ave.
- Reduced speed limit (40km/h) around the entire SERC site
- Pedestrian crossover on Forman Ave. north of the intersection with Oakdale Ave. Anticipated construction completion is the end of October, however crossing guards will remain in place until the crossover is ready
- New vehicle entrance/exit from our north parking lot to Short St. – for student parking
- Parental drop off/pick up location for students at the North Park Community Church (formerly Cornerstone church) site, with entrance off Britannia St. and exit onto Forman Ave., with appropriate signage
- Additional parental drop off/pick up location and overflow parking at Matilda St. parking lot south of Oakdale Ave. near the tennis courts
- Request for increased Police and Fire presence in the area.
